The first large-scale facility in the world is now in operation

4 of November, the storage of carbon dioxide in the world’s first full-scale BECCS project begins in Illinois, USA. The project is lead by Illinois State Geological Survey at the University of Illinois, and other than Biorecro, 47 different partners and advisors are participating in the project through the Midwest Geological Sequestration Consortium (MGSC). The storage is taking place in connection with an ethanol industry which emits great amounts of carbon dioxide from biomass. The capacity is 1 000 tons per day, and during 2013 will be 3 000 tons a day, or a million day per year. This is equivalent to the total emissions from 100 000 Swedes, or 350 000 cars.
